Mission Statement
The Basking Ridge Fire Company
and First Aid Squad strives to provide outstanding critical support
services to the community in the area of fire suppression and
prevention together with emergency patient care. To that end,
the organization will maintain a full complement of highly trained
and state certified first responders, firefighters, and emergency
medical technicians who will be capable of delivering the highest
level of professional care to members of the community.
About the Company
The Basking Ridge Fire Company and First
Aid Squad (the Company) is a wholly volunteer, non-profit organization
established to serve the community of Basking Ridge, Bernards
Township and the surrounding Somerset Hills communities. The organization
provides education, health and social services through:
a. fire prevention and fire safety initiatives
b. emergency first aid medical services
c. community and school practical awareness programs in both
the fire safety and emergency medical discipline
Basking Ridge Fire Company #1 has the unique distinction
of being one of a few companies in the region to combine fire
and first aid volunteers within the same organization.
Basking Ridge comprises the northern section of
Bernards Township, a diverse community comprising 24.5 square
miles in Somerset County, New Jersey. The town may be characterized
suburban with some remaining undeveloped rural areas. The majority
of its citizens commute to jobs in surrounding areas. Employers
within the township include communications companies, insurance,
real estate and the hospitality industries. Income level varies
from low income housing to moderate and high in some of the newly
developed areas of the township. The population of the Basking
Ridge portion of the township is 15,000. The organization provides
services to the community on a round the clock basis, 365 days
a year.
A major challenge facing the community is its ongoing
effort to balance the burgeoning population growth while maintaining
a good educational system within a moderate tax rate. The services
provided by the Basking Ridge Fire Company and First Aid Squad
contribute significantly to holding down the costs of municipal
services through the services of its volunteer members and are
free of charge to the recipients of the services.
