Halloween Bash at the Lord Stirling Stable
The Basking Ridge Fire Company No. 1 and The Somerset County Park Commission joined forces to host the 1st “Annual Halloween Bash at the Lord Stirling Stable”. The joint fundraising event combined the stable’s Halloween party with “The Chief Ned McMahon Memorial Haunted Hayride”, named in honor of the late Basking Ridge Fire Chief who was a driving force behind the Fire Company’s annual event. Participants had their choice of ‘scary’ or ‘non-scary’ rides on hay wagons that traveled along Lord Stirling’s miles of meandering trails.

Disasters That Didn't Really Happen
Over the past few months, Basking Ridge has seen several substantial disasters. An explosion in a heating unit on the roof of a local school severely injured a worker and started a fire raging. Two automobiles collided at high velocity; a driver was trapped in one vehicle, and a passerby was trapped under the other vehicle.

Chief's Corner
by Brendan Watt, Deputy Chief
On September 1, 2007, we lost our friend and Chief, Ned McMahon, to a massive heart attack. The local newspapers described this tragic event, and summarized his contributions to our town and Fire Company over the past decade. Until our company elects new officers later this year, the Chief's duties fall among our current officers.
So, with heavy heart, I am speaking to you from this Chief's Corner. In memory of Ned, and in view of the coming winter season, I encourage all readers to commit today to living a heart-healthy life. Be sure to schedule your next physical exam at the recommended time. Speak then with your physician about how much exercise is right for you, and whether you need to change your diet. Stick to that exercise routine.
And when the first snow comes, don't overdo the shoveling! We want to see you when you come to visit our firehouse, not when our ambulance rolls to your house.

All of Basking Ridge's firefighters and EMTs are part-time volunteers from our community. If you are interested in joining them, visit the firehouse at 30 Washington Street (off of West Oak) any Monday evening from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Click here for driving directions.
